It is the heart of the home and is often one of the busiest rooms in the house. And because of this, it can difficult to keep on top of all the mess and clutter that accumulates. But, help is at hand! You can train yourself into good routines and ways of doing things that will keep your kitchen looking fresh and clean. So here are eight habits of people who always have a clean kitchen.
Wash Up As You Go Along
One of the major culprits in an untidy kitchen is a build up of dishes. You can quickly and easily tick this off your list by washing up as you go along. If you’ve just used a plate and a fork and knife for a quick lunch, rinse them off and chuck them in the dishwasher. If you don’t have a dishwasher then wash them up yourself. It will help to keep your kitchen sparkling clean and will save time in the long run.
Easy Access Trash Can
Yes, I know they’re not the most attractive of things to have in plain sight but you (and the rest of your family!) are more likely to use it if you can see it.
Lemon Fresh Kitchen
This is a great little hack that will keep your kitchen lovely and citrus fresh. Rather than spending money on expensive air fresheners, all you’ve got to do is buy a lemon. Then, poke a few holes in the lemon and place it directly into your oven (heated to 300°F) for fifteen minutes. Leave the oven door slightly open and before long your kitchen will be smelling fresh!
Keep on Top of Your Food Stock
I think that almost everyone who has a kitchen will have at some point found something that has gone out of date. It’s easily done and is definitely not the crime of the century. And if you keep your cupboards and fridge neat and tidy and nicely organized, then you’ll find it a lot easier to know exactly what you have, what you need, and what you should get rid of.
The Kitchen is Not an Office!
It’s so easy to let the kitchen become a dumping ground for mail and other paperwork. So make a hard and fast rule of no paper allowed (except maybe a shopping list). You’ll be surprised at how much of this can build up and make the place look untidy.
Empty the Sink or Dishwasher Regularly
It’s easy to think that after you’ve cleaned the dishes or loaded the dishwasher that the job is done. The bad news is that it isn’t. The good news is that by drying up and immediately putting away or simply unloading the dishwasher, you will keep your kitchen clutter free and clean.
Cook Carefully!
Finally, when you’re cooking, don’t rush things! You’ll be surprised at how much mess you can avoid, simply by taking your time and being careful
