8 Ways to Eat Healthy But Amazing Lunches at Work

It’s a busy world out there and a lot of us are finding that the demands on our time are increasing almost by the day. Often when we are overstretched and feeling rushed, mealtimes are one of the first things to go. Sometimes the temptation is to eat junk, to nuke something in the staff microwave, or visit that burger joint at the end of the road.

But with a little bit of planning ahead and some know-how, you’ll be able to eat wonderfully well throughout your working week. So, without further ado, here are eight ways to eat healthy but amazing lunches at work.

Sandwich Alternatives

Sandwiches are great, an integral component to the classic packed lunch due to their convenience and versatility. But there are a lot more options out there. For instance, try using whole-wheat pitta bread and stuffing it with your favorite combinations of salad, veg, and lean meat. And whole-wheat is great because it’s made with whole grain which contains some amazing vitamins and minerals which will really make you feel good throughout the day.

Homemade Soup

Almost as versatile as the mighty sandwich, is the soup. These days there is a big range to offer that almost anybody can find one that they really love. But even better than a shop bought, off the shelf can of your choice, why not make your own? Soups can be made in big batches and frozen which makes them easy on the pocket and can be made exactly how you like. Delicious for the middle of winter when you need an extra boost of comfort and goodness!

Top tip! Try using last night’s leftovers. Often you can put them in a blender, add some stock and come up with something unique and exciting.

Two Ingredient Pizza

I don’t think I have ever met anyone who doesn’t like pizza. What’s not to like? With an almost unlimited combination of toppings, it’s easy to make this old favorite as healthy as you like.

Using just two ingredients (yogurt and flour) you will get a delicious and health happy base upon which you can build an amazing combination of pizza toppings.

Mix n Match Your Fruit

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, or so they say… And apples are a brilliant choice, particularly good for the heart and mind. But don’t forget to mix it up! Fruit, as we all know, is an essential part of a healthy diet and eating a wide variety can be a tasty and easy way to keep all your moving parts going.

Make Your Own Veggie Chips

Sometimes you just need to eat something with a bit of crunch and the range of chips that are available at supermarkets can be a little overwhelming (and definitely unhealthy). So try experimenting with making your own veggie chips. These are a personal favorite of mine!

Be a Smooth(ie) Operator

These days smoothies come in all the colors of the rainbow and taste just as good as they make you feel. And they’re great as a delicious drink on your break, or a middle of the day pick-me-up. The sky is the limit for these nutritious drinks. Experiment away!

Granola, Granola, Granola

Athletes eat a lot of granola. Why? I hear you ask. Because it’s amazing for you! Granola is a natural source of complex carbohydrates that can give you a boost and lower your cholesterol. Delicious to eat in a bowl of almond milk, or simply topped with natural yogurt. And how about whipping up your own granola bars as an amazingly good, energy giving, revitalizing snack?

Substitutions for your Constitution

These days there are a whole load of healthy eating alternatives and substitutes that you can swap into your favorite foods for an added health kick. The awesome thing about a lot of these is that they taste just as great too! There is a whole world of information on this subject and really the only limit is your imagination. With a little bit of experimentation, you should be able to find ways to ensure your work lunches not only taste amazing but are working with your healthy lifestyle.

A couple of great examples would be quinoa instead of rice or Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It’s all up to you!
