I am usually one of two things in the morning; in a rush to get out the door quickly or feeling too lazy to make a complete breakfast for myself. So when I heard about overnight oats, it seemed like the perfect fit for me. You made it ahead of time and all you had to do was take it out of the fridge and eat at home or on the go.
I’m a creative person so when I did experiment with them, I wasn’t happy just having plain oats with some milk and honey. So I ended up making a few different variations until the mocha overnight oats came out of my creative process.
They were quick and easy and served two purposes. First, they were already done, so no work for me to do. Second, the coffee-soaked oats were an awesome wake-me-up in the morning.
And I suppose there was a third purpose; they fulfilled my chocolate cravings, so that was a plus.
So here’s the quick and simple process of making mocha overnight oats so you can have something delicious and wake you up in your morning haze.
First, you want to take a small, 8 oz. (or 226 gram) mason jar, and fill it up with 1 tablespoon of chia seeds.
Then pour half a cup of oats and a tablespoon of raw cocoa powder into the mason jar.
Next, you want to pour a quarter cup of milk in and then a quarter cup of espresso (or regular coffee) into the mixture.
Then stir the mixture and make sure to scoop up anything from the bottom (chia seeds will stick to the bottom when wet).
Lastly, close the lid and put in the fridge overnight, wake up, open the fridge, take them out, and enjoy a quick breakfast and caffeine kick!

So whether it's with cooking, travel, or staying healthy, they want to help you better your life bit by bit, as they do the same.
Do you heat these up? Don’t think I could eat cold oatmeal.
You can definitely eat them cold. 🙂
What kind of oats do you use? People recommend steel cut but I do not like how they cook up.
You can use whatever kind of oats you want Amanda. As for me, I personally ate old fashioned rolled oats and quick oats. It’s simple enough. 🙂
I followed the link to this from the weight loss post. I am determined to do this. I like Mocha so thought I would like this. I bought organic rolled oats, organic Cocoa, Organic Chia seeds, and Organic Japanese green tea. The green tea is going very well.. but this overnight oats.. was a thick stodge and way too strong for me. I am not a cook, but this I thought was not truly cooking. and really not sure what went wrong. Do you have recipes for your other suggestions for this overnight Rolled oats.. even a few links I could check out. Appreciate any help you can give me.
The oats are suppose to be a bit thick, kind of like a pudding, but I’m not sure if you’re getting the same consistency as me. If you want, you can send me photos and I’ll look them over. 🙂
