The One Genius Trick I Use to Save Hundreds on Food (Every Month!)

Just by figuring out this one simple money saving trick last year, I’ve been able to save thousands on food. Seriously, it really is easy and I’m not talking about cutting coupons or cutting out the “fun things” from your cart.

And it’s strange, because I’m always being told about the latest money saving apps and sticking to a budget when it comes to groceries whenever food bills are brought up.

And don’t get me wrong! Both of those options are some great extra ways to save on your groceries. By all means, do them! Save that extra money for something important; put it towards your debt or savings or other necessities.

But the trick I’m talking about is called the Pinterest Method (sounds weird, but I’ll explain).

WARNING: This tip isn’t just telling you to never eat out, it’s a whole lot more than that.

The Pinterest Method

Earlier last year, my husband and I would eat out all the time. Work was a good 30 minutes from home, so by the time we got out around 6PM, we were hungry and didn’t feel like going home to wait another 30-60 minutes on dinner.

We’d look over how much we’d spent every month and get frustrated with ourselves for spending a ton of money, but we never changed. That is until we created the Pinterest Method.

We were both Pinterest fanatics (my husband was actually the one to get me into Pinterest), and our food boards were piling up with awesome recipes. However many of them weren’t cheap recipes. Many of them required certain ingredients and looked a bit expensive.

But we concluded one thing; if we meal planned amazing recipes and spent more at the grocery store, we’d actually still be saving more than going out. Why? Well we realized that if we made amazing meals (that lasted more than one night) at home, we’d be less likely to eat out and waste money on “okay food” and a tip to a waiter who was rude.

So make use of those crazy recipes instead of letting your money go to restaurants that’ll just make you gain weight and lose money.

But Wait! There’s More!

Along with this Pinterest Strategy, we’d also allow for 2-4 items (for each of us) to splurge on. This could be drinks, snacks, or some good you wouldn’t normally get. That way, you’re not going out for drinks and spending three times more than what the drink would cost at the store (and the same goes for other food products).

So go ahead, splurge! Just make sure it’s apart of a meal plan and create your own restaurant experience. Make having a more intimate dining experience better than what you’d get at Olive Garden or Applebees. Have fun with it and make sure you’re not choosing meals that’d tempt you to eat out during the week.

Now if you have any questions about this strategy, just let me know in the comments down below. I’d love to help you guys out!
