I want to create a more in-depth post for my weight loss journey, but for now, I thought I would make it a simple piece that will help you not feel too intimidated to get started. 🙂
I want this to be a post where you can get some simple advice while relaxing and sipping a hot cup of coffee on your couch.
So I hope you enjoy these non-intimidating tips as you get comfortable with said cup of coffee.
First off, I feel like it’s important to say, I’ve almost always struggled with my weight. I’ve been skinny, I’ve been overweight, and somewhere in between.
I’ve always lacked the confidence to just get started on living a healthy lifestyle in general, not just losing weight for a bit because I felt bad about my body and then just gain it back. You probably know the process.
But finally, not too long ago, I decided that I was going to do things to love my body. Not hate it because of where it was, but just give it good things and do good things for it so that it was taken care of. I only have one body, so I thought I’d treat it gently. 🙂
Important Side Note: Make sure to talk to your doctor to know what’s best for your body. My advice could be harmful based on your health.
So here’s my first tip…
JUMP TO SECTION:
1. Get the App Waterful (It’s Very Helpful)
This wasn’t the first thing I did, but it’s probably one of the most helpful things in my journey to getting down to a healthy weight.
It’s a small important app. It helps you make sure that you’re drinking the proper amount of water each day and gives you little rewards when you hit certain milestones. Also… it has a cute little octopus that gets excited for you whenever you add how much water you took in. ❤️
It’s good, I promise. Also, it kind of keeps you motivated when you start seeing your winning streak (as it were) for drinking 100% of your water goal each day.
2. Putting Healthy Fats Into My Diet
I saw this TikTok (I know, a very legitimate source) of a girl who talked about how in her 20s, she noticed a lot of fine lines early on. Something you’d think you would start to notice in your 30s.
So after some research, one of the things she did was start to take in more healthy fats since they’re incredible for your skin.
And knowing that I should probably do my own research, I looked up the best sources for healthy fats since they do promote weight loss, skin health, and a lot more.
Here’s my list, feel free to do your own research so you can feel good about your own weight loss journey.
Healthy Fats I Try to Work In
- Avocados
- Tuna (preferably raw for me – tastes great with avocado and seasoning).
- Chickpeas
- Whole eggs
- Full-fat yogurt
- Cheese
- Nuts
- Extra virgin olive oil (I’ll sometimes take this as a shot – don’t judge)
Just make sure to look at the calories and eat in moderation. Too much of a good thing isn’t always good.
3. I Kept My Meals Simple & Healthy but Not Boring
Simply put, I found what worked with food and stuck with it.
I heard that some of the most important things you can have in your diet were healthy fats, fibers, and proteins (I’m gonna say it again because my site isn’t a well-known legitimate source for health facts. Do the research! 😅).
So I accumulated a list of good (and yummy) fibers and proteins, just like I did with the healthy fats, and did what I could to make my dishes taste good…. like really good.
I’m living in Mexico at the moment, but you can easily do these dishes too if you’re living elsewhere.
I bought corn tortillas or made brown rice as a carb base. Then I would have fun with toppings. Ok, so I wanted some fresh tuna, avocado, a bit of soy sauce, and queso fresco (fresh cheese) crumbled on top? Yeah, that’s what I’m having tonight.
Here they are, they’re so pretty.👌
It was so good and made me (and my husband who was thanking me for the meal days afterward), feel incredible health-wise.
Once you’ve accumulated a list of healthy ingredients and looked online for a bit of inspiration, you start to make dishes that are easy to pull together and taste incredible and fresh.
None of this 40-minute prep time for a healthy recipe that might taste like cardboard.
Also, over a short amount of time, you start to add more and more things that just make the meal tasty.
Example: my husband and I love to experiment with salsas, they’ve been shown to be a lot more healthy and they add so much flavor to the dish.
Oh, and here’s that healthy food list I accumulated. Again, make sure to do your own research. 🙂
Quick Side Note: I also added a list of leafy greens and foods that have antioxidants because I really wanted to find a way to make sure I was loving my body in the best way possible.
Fiber
- Brown rice
- Avocados
- Chickpeas
- Oats
- Lentils
Lean Protein
- Eggs
- Chicken
- Fish
- Plain greek yogurt
- Beans & lentils
- Lean beef
Healthy Fats
- Avocados
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Fatty fish
- Nuts
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Full-fat yogurt
Antioxidants
- Spinach
- Beans
- Coffee
- Avocados
- Kimchi
- Olive oil
- Black pepper
- Garlic
Leafy Greens
- Spinach
- Romain lettuce
There were some ingredients that were listed in different categories, which means you’re kind of killing two or three birds with one stone when it comes to your health. So basically if you’re eating an avocado, you’re getting fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats. It’s awesome. 👌
That’s it for now, will be sharing more later. And if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer!
