I’m Irish and I’m kind of ashamed that I didn’t know about lot of these Irish food recipes.

But now that I know they exist, I kind of feel like I should be making them this year!

Also this list contains some perfectly delicious recipes for almost every part of your menu:

So if you want to get some new ideas for St. Patrick’s Day, plus you want pretty authentic dishes, then I think this list of Irish food has got you covered!

1. Corned Beef Hash

It’s a classic, so I kind of can’t not include it on this list.

Also, if you haven’t had it yet, then I highly recommend it!

It’s one of my favorites since I was kid, and is perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day breakfast.

Quick Notes About Recipe:

  • Prep is 5 minutes (which is great – less time on feet).
  • Cook time is 25 which means you’re eating in half an hour.
  • Serves 4, but I bet you can double the recipe if you have a bigger gathering.

2. Irish Barmbrack (Cinnamon Raisin Bread)

Alright, I’ve never had Irish barmbrack before, but it looks like it would go incredible with a hot cup of creamy coffee!

Maybe good for an early St. Patrick’s Day morning?

Also, if you don’t know what it is, barmbrack is apparently a soft and fluffy Irish bread with tea-soaked fruit, and plenty of comforting spices.

Sounds amazing!

Quick Notes About Recipe:

  • Serves 12, so definitely great if you have company over!
  • There’s quite a bit of resting and cook time, so I’d say maybe make the night before.

3. Colcannon Soup (Cabbage Potato Soup)

There’s something about a cabbage and potato soup that sounds ridiculously comforting.

It’s a nice side dish that is also budget-friendly, and creamy, and looks like it would probably pair great with some Irish soda bread (recipe later on).

  • The cook time is just 25 minutes, so you don’t have to wait too long for an incredible dinner.
  • This recipe also recommends crumbling bacon on top, so I’d say give this one a try!

4. Granny’s Bangers and Mash Recipe

If this is someone’s grandmother’s recipe, then I’m instantly gonna say that it’s a clear winner.

Grandmas know how to make some of the best dishes!

Also, the gravy is made with Guinness, and you’re getting satisfyingly creamy potatoes and hearty sausage. I don’t think you can go wrong.

  • The author of this recipe recommends bratwursts if you can’t find Irish sausage.
  • Prep time is just 10 minutes, so you’re not spending too long on your feet!

5. Boxty Traditional Irish Potato Pancake

Something about Irish potato pancakes being fried in browned butter sounds ridiculously good!

Being more common in Northern Wester Ireland, it’s a tried and true recipe, and probably perfect for either breakfast or dinner.

  • Prep time is 10 minutes
  • The cook time is also just 10 minutes, which means you’ll be eating pretty quick!
  • I’d say these would pair great with eggs, bacon, and a hot cup of coffee!

6. Slow Cooker Cottage Pie

You might know cottage pie as shepherd pie, which means you know it’s gonna be good!

However, cottage pie is normally made with ground beef instead of lamb.

Quick Notes About Recipe:

  • This recipe includes ingredients like white wine, butter, garlic, and cheese so you know it’ll be tasty.
  • The prep time is 15 minutes, but I’d say it’s worth it. You just make it in the morning or early afternoon, and it’s ready for dinner!

7. Colcannon

Never had this one before, but I’m definitely curious about it!

You’re getting creamy buttery mashed potatoes with sautéed greens, so I think this would probably make an amazing side dish to your authentic Irish dinner!

  • If you’re curious about the sautéed greens, it’s kale or cabbage. I’m personally in favor of the cabbage!
  • It serves 5 so I think it’ll make a nice hearty side dish!

I think we all know what this is, but just in case, if you’ve never had it then I think this is your year to make it!

You’re getting a tangy, savory, super flavorful main, and it’s already prepped and made with ingredients that serve as sides.

So if you want to have it a bit more easy, then this could be the only thing you make for your St. Patrick’s Day dinner!

  • The prep is 20 minutes, but it’s also being made with potatoes and other tasty veggies. That means you’re getting easy sides out of this!
  • Serves 6, so great for a family.

I’ve never had Irish apple cake before, but it looks so tasty!

Also, pair it with some hot coffee or tea and I think you’re set.

  • It has a streusal topping, so I think it’s a definite winner for dessert.
  • It serves 8 people! This is gonna be a great one for a crowd.
  • The ingredients are simple (and tasty), so no need to go out and get fancy ingredients from the store.

A historical recipe made around the time of the Irish potato famine, and apparently it goes great with tea!

Also, it includes molasses, so I feel like this bread has to be good!

  • Prep time is 15 minutes, but I’d say that’s not too bad for a bread recipe!
  • It’s also done in just 1 hour, which is also a lot faster than other bread recipes.

11. Dublin Coddle

A tasty-looking and traditional potato and sausage stew, it honestly doesn’t get more authentically Irish than this.

Also, it’s not an expensive dish and looks like it would be a great dinner to have on a cold evening!

  • It includes bacon which makes it an automatic winner in my book.
  • Serves 8 people, which is great for a big gathering!
  • The author of the recipe includes the cooking method for the oven, slow cooker, and instant pot. So you definitely have some options for how you want to cook it!

Something about an Irish country rhubarb cake sounds so wholesome!

Also, I’ve had American rhubarb pie before and loved it, so I’d definitely be happy to have this cake!

And it actually has a scone pastry as the crust which sounds incredible!
